are flea collars safe?

I have an 11 week old kitten that has fleas. lots of fleas. I need to know if it is safe to use a Hartz Mountain flea collar on her.I have heard that these collars are not safe and have been known to cause the death of cats and dogs. I looked this up on line and there are real horror stories. Help

Take the kitten to the Vet for a dose of Capstar. This will kill the existing fleas that are currently ON the kitten.

While you’re there, have the vet show you the best flea treatment for preventing fleas, and get some for the kitten…..putting some on her RIGHT THEN!

If your kitten has fleas, chances are that your home has them, too. You need to treat your carpets, under furniture, etc with some 20 Mule Team Borax powder ( grocery store/detergent aisle ).

Sprinkle this powder all over your rugs / carpets, under furniture, etc and .. using a broom, brush it down INTO the nap until you don’t see any of the powder anymore. Leave it there .. to let the borax dry up the fleas and kill them…….

In a couple of days, VACUUM the whole area THOROUGHLY, and toss the V.C. bag into the OUTSIDE garbage. You don’t want any eggs that you’ve picked up to hatch out and reinfest your home.

Wait a couple more days and REPEAT THE WHOLE PROCEDURE …You may have to do this a few times, because fleas hatch out in “cycles”. The fleas you see today were eggs THREE WEEKS ago…….

Depending on the extent of your flea problem, you may have to retreat a few times. The borax works….It just takes TIME and COMMITMENT. BUT, you don’t have to leave the house while it’s working ( like you do for fogging ), it’s not dangerous to people or animals, and it has no pesticide “odor”.

If your kitten has been in the yard, you may have to treat your yard, too…….
