The coefficient of static friction between hard rubber and normal street pavement is about 0.8. On how steep a hill (maximum angle) can you leave a car parked?

the force that wants to make the car slide down the street is mg*sin(a)

the resistance exerted by friction is mg*cos(a), i.e. how much the car weighs on the pavement, times the friction coefficient.

you want both equal so you have

m*g*sin(a) = (0.8)*m*g*cos(a)

you take out m and g:
sin(a) = (0.8)*cos(a)

so you have tan(a) = 0.8

which is 38.66 degrees

this compares with really steep streets just barely reaching 15 percent, which is a measly 8.5 degrees

so no risk

unless you live in Boston. Where, as you may know, they sometimes get freezing rain, which covers the street so well, and manages to get under a parked car tyres so well, that sometimes all the cars parked in a steep street, will end up at the bottom
