Cat grooming options to minimize shedding.?

My cat sheds like crazy, I use the furminator every day, but apparently it doesn’t work at all like advertised. My mom suggested shaving her like we do with the dog, but im afraid that it will look bad or her coat wont grow back as soft. Is there any other grooming options? Have any of you shaved your cats?

we have shaved my cat before and in a couple days it grew right back and should be normal again in a few weeks but make sure when you are shaving you do not spend more then ten minutes at a time so they do not freak out and you accidentally cut them
