Groomers: Do you have some people who have untrained dogs or with unstable temperments?

Just drop their dogs off to you without saying a word? Are you allowed to muzzle a dog any time you need to? Or would you just not groom the dog if it gets that bad?
I was just wondering how this was dealt with. My dog’s groomer loves him but she is in danger of being licked to pieces when grooming him…. we’re working on it!!

We do everything we can to groom a dog but the bottom line is we don’t want to get bit. We can’t do our work if we are injured and the hands is the most vulnerable place to be bitten. We use muzzle when necessary(usually nails is the worst problem) but if the dog won’t let us put the muzzle on then they are out the door. Fear biters are the worst and they are usually the unsocialized dogs. We have had screamers who are more of an embarrassment to groom and we have talked to the two stores on either side of us and explained the situation with some dogs and they understand (we don’t want them calling the SPCA and accuse us of beating dogs lol) I would rather be licked to pieces than get bit.
