Grooming Bows
grooming problems, pls help !!!?
my yorkie is 5 months old and i am having a hard time grooming her. showering & brushing is not a problem at all. in fact, she loves her brush like as if it’s massaging her. however, when it comes to cutting her nails, and putting a bow in her hair, it is almost impossible for me to convince her to cooperate! bringing her to a groomer is not the best option for me. anything i can do so that she’ll behave when i groom her? pls help!!! her nails are so long now, i need to cut them!
p.s. i am only able to cut her nails when someone else is with me to distract her while i cut her nails. and i can only put a bow in her hair when she is sleeping. *sigh*
i understand completely one of my cavalier king Charles hates having there nails done. because she is so young it will be relatively easy to train her to put up with it. when shes relaxed and quiet put a lead on her and attach it to some thing so she cant get away then also put another lead ot something soft underneath the belly and attach that to something as well above her so she cant sit down. then talk calmly and lift her paws one at a time and touch her nails then let her go after just that and give her a food reward and play a game with her. do this for a few days then after she has got used to the routine you can start to bring in the nail clippers. only do as much as she can handle say two nails then let her go and feed and play. this will help over time it will take a while but it saves a lot of fuss and money. in the mean time though you may have to take her to someone who can do it and has the right equipment there are a load of cheap places out there. good luck!
