What is a great way for a beginning band to get noticed by record labels companies?

I’m starting a band here soon. I’d like to know what are some good ways to progress as a band and have a more widespread reputation.

You don’t want to get noticed by record labels.
Well, play any gigs possible, get a Myspace page up, get a separate fan page up, make sure you are actually GOOD first, play any and everywhere, record some of your stuff to sell at gigs and anywhere else you may be.

Trust me, signing with a major company can be a huge mistake. They take away most of your money (Big bands make personal revenue SOLELY on merchandise most of the time.), block your stuff from getting heard by potential new fans, and they charge fees out the ass.

Get on an indie or separate label, and you will do better, and be prouder of yourself. Its a Catch 22 getting signed anyway, because to become a “huge success” (based on one aspect of judgment that I do not agree with) in the music biz, you have to get signed with a major company and sell cd’s. But to get signed with a major company, you have to be a huge success.

See what I’m saying? Good luck. Avoid major labels until your following is so strong that you won’t get pushed around by what the “big boys” want from your music. They have corrupted and changed other groups’ sound many a time. Don’t lose your individuality and whatever makes your group special.

This is all assuming you have the talent and will power to make it happen.
