Is there anything in my kitchen I can use on furniture to stop my puppy’s chewing?

Koi, our eight-week-old Alaskan Malamute that we got yesterday is a chewer, just as we’d expected. I didn’t make it to the pet store today to get bitter apple or any other chewing deterrent- is there anything I can use from my kitchen just to get me through the night?

He didn’t sleep last night (I think because of the stress of leaving his litter-mates…) I can’t watch him all night again – I need some sleep!

Any suggestions?

Give him LOTS of other things to chew on instead of shoes, furniture, etc. Every time he starts to chew on furniture, give him a tasty bone or chew toy to encourage him to chew on those instead. Bitter apple spray doesn’t work very well and you don’t want to spray it on leather! Have your puppy sleep with a reminder of his old family in his bed. If you don’t have one, let him sleep with you for a few nights until he gets used to the house. Keep in mind he will grow into a large dog so dont let him sleep with you every night unless you want a giant pup taking over your bed. Hope this helps!
