Is electric fence good for keeping horses in the pasture long term?
We want to take the cheap route for fencing my horses in on our land, is electric fence ok to use if not why??
I don’t own a horse, but most people with horses in the area use electric fencing. We own cows and with electric fencing it makes everything so much easier! We have permanent wires running along all of our paddocks and we just attach a round-wire straight through the middle to separate the paddock and strip feed from there.
For those who are saying it costs a lot. It doesn’t. It CAN be connected up to your power bill if you arrange it that way which costs more, but we use a battery and it costs nothing. We just switch it every now and then and give it a full charge so it will be sweet for the next time. Most of the time we put the flat battery in a car and jump start it. Then we use that battery in the car for a few days to fully charge it. It’s the best way to go, trust me.
We use permanent wire to surround the paddock and round-wire fencing(gets wound up) to go across the paddocks and temporarily divide the paddock for strip feeding etc,etc.
Definitely a good way to go, very affordable.
