How young does a puppy have to be to use a shock collar (for an electric fence.)?

We are going to get a puppy but we have to use an electric fence. How old does a puppy have to be to use a shock collar? Please help!
Were getting one very soon so we can go ahead and buy a collar .

6 months old, I think. Check the instruction manual. It tells. And remember, that might keep your dog in, but it will not keep other animals out.
