How does the electric company pinpoint a problem in underground wiring?

Our power went out this morning so called the electric company and blah blah blah…

It’s actually fairly simple, for magic.

The unit used reads the magnetic field set up around the charged wire. When this magnetic field disappears, so did the current and you have passed the break.

For all you who do this for a living, yes, I realize this is oversimplified, but it’s the right basic idea.
