Difference between single and double action revolvers?

Can you tell me what “single action” and “double action” mean?

Colt SAA, classic example of the Single Action. (SAA stands for single action army). Single action means you must c0ck the hamer manually before each trigger pull, cartridges are loaded through a gate.

S&W model 29 would be a classic example of a Double Action. Double action means you can pull the trigger and by so doing, the hammer is c0cked and dropped thus firing the gun. Double actions are normally loaded by a swing out cylinder, although there are a few examples of top break revolvers, the common norm is the swing out cylinder.
