my dog is 13 he has broncitis arthritis breathing problems and was diaganosed with senile dementia 2 days ago does any one know how long they have to live with senile dementia the Vet says hes not in much pain but they told me it was up to me how much time i want to spend with him they were waiting me to say put him to sleep he is my baby ive had him since he was born i saw him being born as i had his mam and dad its breaking my heart as i love him like i love my daughter so does any one know how long he has left please help im so upset and cant bare to lose him
I share your pain I had a little dog put down in July, she had a stroke caused by a brain tumour, and was in a lot of pain, so that was the best thing I could do for her. I also breed my own and she had had 3 litters I still have her daughter and the father of the littlers.
I would put up with the dementia as long as he wasn’t in pain. When the quality of life goes thens the time.

A Husband, a Wife, & an Illness: Living Life Beyond Chronic Illness $19.69 We were living the American dream. But when the illness invaded our lives, it tore those dreams apart and we were thrust into a fight for our survival. In the devastation, we lost our home, our savings, our cars, and even our dogs. We lost everything but each other. But we are surviving, and thriving, although it sometimes feels as though we are in a mental, physical, and spiritual battle with an invisible opponent. In this uniquely written book, we both tell our own story. But related in a personal tone that moves seamlessly from the emotions of a spouse to motivating coach, this book does more than share a story, each chapter presents practical tips on living a life beyond illness, for both the care giving spouse and the spouse-patient. If you and your spouse are facing chronic illness, especially a severe chronic illness, you will instantly relate to the chapters in this book. You will understand the odd sense of humor we have about things, and you’ll feel us when we cry in the darkest moments. For more information and support, visit CouplesFacingIllness.com. Black Dogs and Blue Words $45.95 His “black dog”—that was how Winston Churchill referred to his own depression. Today, individuals with feelings of sadness and irritability are encouraged to “talk to your doctor.” These have become buzz words in the aggressive promotion of wonder-drug cures since 1997, when the Food and Drug Administration changed its guidelines for the marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals. Black Dogs and Blue Words analyzes the rhetoric surrounding depression. Kimberly K. Emmons maintains that the techniques and language of depression marketing strategies—vague words such as “worry,” “irritability,” and “loss of interest”—target women and young girls and encourage self-diagnosis and self-medication. Further, depression narratives and other texts encode a series of gendered messages about health and illness. As depression and other forms of mental illness move from the medical-professional sphere into that of the consumer-public, the boundary at which distress becomes disease grows ever more encompassing, the need for remediation and treatment increasingly warranted. Black Dogs and Blue Words demonstrates the need for rhetorical reading strategies as one response to these expanding and gendered illness definitions. |

Lives of the Monster Dogs $3.95 "Lives of The Monster Dogs" is a Featured Alternate Selection of The Book-of-the-Month Club "RM" and The Quality Paperback Book Club "RM", and Audio Literature will be releasing an audio version of this title. A group of elegant "monster dogs" in top hats, tails, and bustle skirts become instant celebrities when they come to New York in 2008. Refugees from a town which had been completely isolated for 100 years, the dogs retain the 19th century Germanic culture of the humans who created them. As the dogs struggle to adapt to their new surroundings, a young woman befriends them…and discovers that a strange, incurable illness threatens them with extinction. "An effective fantasy in the tradition of Robert Louis Stevenson and Mary Shelley. It is loaded with metaphor and reflection — on nature and culture, on science, on the place of artists in society". — The Wall Street Journal "One of the most unique and unusual works of fiction to come along in many years….Like Frankenstein before it, Monster Dogs is a fabulous fable well told". — Cathy Hainer, USA Today |
