what kind of dog should I get?

My parents have agreed on getting a dog and were wondering what kind of dog to get. We have plenty of space in our back yard for any kind of dog,we are willing to take it on as many walks as it needs a day, its welcome in the house, and we have the money to hire a trainer (although i would like to train it myself if possible) we want a dog with short hair and medium to Large Size. something like a chocolate lab but NOT a chocolate lab
our family has an active lifestyle but a collie wont work due to shedding lots of hair
