Dog Wounds Treatment

Dog bit the leg & broke the skin?
I haven’t seen the wound yet, I only know the skin was broken. The wounded is on the way home now.
What is treatment for dog bite? Does it matter how deep the wound is?
Is bitten automatically taken to ER or can the wound be washed & disinfected?
I haven’t seen the wound yet, so maybe this question is premature.
You can take them to the ER, but they won’t stitch a dog bite. It has high risk of getting infected if stitched. Do not use peroxide or Neosporin, because they should never be used on a puncture wound. Use either a mixture of sea salt ( not iodized salt or table salt for any reason!!!) and warm water or sterile saline solution. The sea salt mixture should be about 1/2 a teaspoon per 2 oz of water. I usually mix the sea salt and water in a shot glass and then hold it over the the wound. Saline solution is the same thing only you dont have to mix it. I would still recommend putting it in a small cup or shot glass and holding it over the wound for a minute or so. Bandage it well. Clean it often. Keep it clean. You can also give the person a Tylenol cause they will probably bruise and its going to be sore.
Also make sure the dogs vaccinations are up to date!

Wounds of the Spirit $70 In Wounds of the Spirit , Traci West employs first person accounts-from slave narratives to contemporary interviews to Tina Turner's autobiography-to document a historical legacy of violence against black women in the United States. West, a black feminist Christian ethicist, situates spiritual matters within a discussion of the psycho-social impact of intimate assault against African American women. Distinctive for its treatment of the role of the church in response to violence against African American women, the book identifies specific social mechanisms which contribute to the reproduction of intimate violence. West insists that cultural beliefs as well as institutional practices must be altered if we are to combat the reproduction of violence, and suggests methods of resistance which can be utilized by victim-survivors, those in the helping professions, and the church. Interrogating the dynamics of black women's experiences of emotional and spiritual trauma through the diverse disciplines of psychology, sociology, and theology, this important work will be of interest and practical use to those in women's studies, African American studies, Christian ethics, feminist and womanist theology, women's health, family counseling, and pastoral care. |

Invisible Wounds of War $9.95 Since October 2001, approximately 1.64 million U.S. troops have been deployed for Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) in Afghanistan and Iraq. Early evidence suggests that the psychological toll of these deployments?many involving prolonged exposure to combat-related stress over multiple rotations?may be disproportionately high compared with the physical injuries of combat. Concerns have been most recently centered on two combat-related injuries in particular: post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Many recent reports have referred to these as the signature wounds of the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. With the increasing concern about the incidence of suicide and suicide attempts among returning veterans, concern about depression is also on the rise. The study discussed in this monograph focuses on post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, and traumatic brain injury, not only because of current high-level policy interest but also because, unlike the physical wounds of war, these conditions are often invisible to the eye, remaining invisible to other servicemembers, family members, and society in general. All three conditions affect mood, thoughts, and behavior; yet, these wounds often go unrecognized and unacknowledged. The effect of traumatic brain injury is still poorly understood, leaving a large gap in knowledge related to how extensive the problem is or how to address it. This monograph summarizes key findings and recommendations from a larger RAND document entitled Invisible Wounds of War: Psychological and Cognitive Injuries, Their Consequences, and Services to Assist Recovery (Tanielian and Jaycox [Eds.], Santa Monica, Calif.: MG-720-CCF, 2008), a comprehensive study RAND conducted of the post-deployment health-related needs associated with the three conditions among OEF/OIF veterans; the health care system in place to meet those needs; gaps in the care system; and the costs of filling those gaps and providing quality health care to all those in need. Readers desiring more details are referred to that document. Both monographs should be of interest to mental health treatment providers; health policymakers, particularly those charged with caring for our nation?s veterans; and U.S. service men and women, their families, and the concerned public. All the research products from this study are available at http://veterans.rand.org. |
