My dog has been to the vets and is on steroids and anti-biotics, still no change.?

He still has open wounds on his back feet only. He has had flea and mite treatment, He is a big GSD and last time he went under he was really ill. Vi

I saw the answers to your first question and I really advise against Vaseline if he is on antibiotics. Antibiotics are for infection and if you seal in the bacteria with Vaseline, you will just create more problems for your pup. I would go with Aloe. Pure aloe from a health food store. Aloe is a natural antiseptic so it will not seal in bacteria and it will soften the skin. It is also safe to ingest if he licks it.
Then you need to find the cause. I would slowly change him to a natural food without grains (especially wheat) because grains cause many allergies than cause this sort of skin erruption.
I would also look at his behavior. If he is anxious when you leave him alone for example and chews himself to relieve this you will have to address this problem (leave the tv on for instance). If something else is making him anxious, you will have to try to eliminate the problem. You need to find the root cause of this problem in order to solve it. Try to come up with a chart of what time of year he usually gets this problem. It could be holiday stress, moving of furniture for decorations, etc.
My German Shep gets August/September allergies so bad that he eats the back half of himself raw. He has to be allergic to some sort of plant because we have had fleas in March before and they caused him minimal discomfort so it could be environmental for your dog too. If you pinpoint the time of year your dog becomes miserable, do some research about your climate to see what plants only grow then.
Also see if there is some sort of air freshener or cleaner you only use at certain times of the year. Many people change scents for the holidays and he may be allergic to a scent. Check yourself and others in the household as well. Did someone get a perm or have their hair dyed recently? Have you used a different laundry detergent, dryer sheet, fabric softener? How about some hand lotion that you use in the winter for dry skin? Look at every little thing like this because dogs are just like people and can have allergies to these things.
