I need help traning my dog to go pee on the wee-wee pad?

His a long hair chihuahua, 1yr, and vary cute please help.

Ok, he’s 1. I assume he has a favorite place to go? Get you some bed liners from walmart for bed wetters. They are more absorbant and better made than piddle pads. Clean his favorite potty area thoroughly. Cover it in piddle pads. Still scold him for going on the carpet, linoleum, etc. Don’t scold him for going on the piddle pad. I don’t even acknowledge it, so mine feels he’s being sneaky. You’ll need to change the pads every few days. After he gets used to going on the pad, you can start using less pads. Cut the area covered in half. Wait a few more days, cut it half again. Do this until you are down to 1 piddle pad. When you are down to one pad, then everytime you change it, move it a couple feet towards the area you want to keep it in. I keep my piddle pad in the bathroom corner out of the way. It started out at the end of the hallway.

This is very easy to do, and alot less stressful than crating your chi, or trying to convince him that going outside in crappy weather is a great idea! I’ve never had it fail.

Yes, you can buy the “made for dogs special scented Wee Wee pads”, but they are not as well made, cost more, and aren’t as absorbant. I tried those and didn’t like them, and then my mom suggested the bed liners for bed wetters. They are larger, and better made, and way more absorbant as they were made for humans! They are also less expensive in the long run. My “kids” didn’t notice any difference when I switched. All they care about seems to be that the pad is in a semi-private place so they can do their business without an audience, and that I change it every other day, as they don’t like it icky! Go figure, lol.

Another tip, is when starting out, the first time you change the pads, take a little poo from the old pad, and leave it on the new pad, so as not to confuse them. That’s another way to get them going on the pad, is pick up their mistakes and place them on the pad so they can see where it goes and doesn’t displease you
