Dog Training Treats
Do you think training dogs with treats is a good way to train them?
Or do you think training them with treats makes them less social and more food orientated.
This is a huge debate in the dog trainers community.
What do you think?
My personal experience is not to use treats. For their basic training I use correction and positive reinforcement. For tricks I will use pieces of cheese or something they love to eat. I have never used treats for training and my dogs learn very well and fast. Example given by my trainer: if you train with treats…your dog runs into the road…you call him with no treats and he knows it…is he going to stop and sit or come back? I’d rather him come back because his leader is telling him to, and not take the chance because of food…especially if a car is barreling down on him.
