Dog Shock Remote
What kind of shock collar is best for my dog?
His name is Cooper and he’s a Chocolate Lab/German Shepard Mix, so hes very large. Almost every time I take him out to do his business he ends up running off at top speed. I really want to try the shock collar. What is the best one for large dogs? I will need one with a remote control for a long rang. Thank you in advance for you responses! Please don’t leave negatives! I’ll be getting one either way so a snide remark isn’t going to change anything.

Tri Tonics makes excellent quality collars with up to 1/4 mile range. They also have sportsman models that are water proof.
Ignore the PETA orientated nuts above me – they’re against remote collars without ever using one. Remote collars have variable settings that range from creating a non-painful muscle twitch to a decent amount of pain. But no setting will make your dog have seizures. It’s YOUR responsibility to use the lowest possible setting that produces results.
I recommend that you order a collar off www.leerburg.com as Ed, the owner and guy with 30+ experience in police dog training and breeding, will be glad to answer your questions about them. But don’t order his remote collar video, even when he recommends it, because it’s not well made. I don’t know if there are any well made remote collar videos, but I do suggest listening to Ed’s podcast titled Theories of Corrections in Dog Training. It has important information about timing, dog temperament, and level of corrections that are VERY important in using any kind of correction with your dog. You can download it for free – just search Google for “leerburg.com theories of dog corrections in dog training” And don’t hesitate to email Ed for advice before or after buying a collar from him. But I don’t recommend buying his remote collar training video =]
