How to get my dog to slow down when eating?
Hi,
We have a 13 year old rat terrier who has been eating dry food for the last year. Unfortunately, his teeth are starting to fall out, and its hard for him to chew hard food. Now we have started him on soft food, or “cuts” of meat in gravy. The problem is he INHALES his food and always throws it back up. With the dry he couldn’t do this because he had to chew. What should I do to get him to slow down and actually chew his meals, not scarf?
Have you tried putting him on the dry food and wetting it a down a little? It still would be a little harder to chew so he couldn’t scarf it but the water helps soften it a a bit. The wet might be a little too rich for him though.
