Can a Small Breed of dog like a pug have pup sired by a larger breed like a Great Dane?

Obviously, this would have to be via artificial insemination, but the question is more about whether a smaller dog’s uterus then limits the size of her babies, and how it is done.

The mother’s life would definately be in danger. The pups wouldn’t likely be as large as pure Dane pups but they would still be too big for the pug to deliver them. A C-section might be a way to save the mother but it still wouldn’t be a good situation. It would be a terrible strain on her body.

I’ve heard vets talk about situations like this one. They mostly recommend aborting the litter.
