What is the best method to use for trimming a dog’s nails?

I have a 2 year old, medium sized dog (65 pounds) and he absolutely hates to have his nails trimmed. I usually have to take him to the Vet to have it done and it usually takes at least 2 people to trim his nails. He doesn’t mind at all if I handle his paws, but it seems like he’s becoming more and more uncooperative with the nail trimming. I’ve tried letting him lick peanut butter off of a paper plate, but as soon as i try to clip his nails he completely ignores it. Basically I’m out of ideas and would like to hear any suggestions. Thanks.

I use the emory board to do nails..Get the broad, coarse emory board made for use with acrylic nails..they are only about 4 for a dollar..then, at cuddle time, just casually begin to file the nails..If you do this every 2 or 3 days, he will have perfect nails within a week..then do it about twice per month or so..
If he is still too nervous, Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 tablespoon for a a medium to large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar’s, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed.
