My dog keeps dragging things outside, specifically his dog mat, I tell him no and he knows he did something?

Your dog likes to drag his mat outside. If he understood it was WRONG, he wouldn’t do it, so you need to accept that he does NOT know it is “wrong” in your eyes. He knows that you scold him so he acts appropriately submissive, although he doesn’t understand WHY you are upset. What people long described as “that guilty look” is merely the look of canine submission. It is NOT an admission of guilt or wrongdoing.

If you don’t want your dog to drag things outside, put them away so he can’t, or close the door after he goes out, which will also stop him. Then find something else fun for your dog to do. He is bored. A game of fetch or a big meaty bone would make him happy, or teach him something new, go for a walk to a new place.
