Dog Illness Symptoms

DOG ILLNESS?? My 2 year old female Boxer is……?
not drinking nor is she eating. I have been using a serringe to give her fluid for the last 3 days, she will not eat anything. She does however vomittt, and I mean vomitt, thick with food/chunks, I idont think it is food as she has not eating), and the last two times after the vommitting she would fall to the floor:(, I took her to my Vet and was told that there was nothing wrong with her, I do not believe that, I will take her to another vet soon, as these symptoms are not consistant they are sperattic and only usally last a day or two, but in the previous times she never collapesed my fear is that it is her heat.
Until I go for a second oppinion , just curious to see if anyone out therer can shed some light on this for me?
Thanks soooo much
Dear Katt19,Sorry to hear of your beloved pets ailment but, from your discription, I think 2 conditions may factor in.Does pet have access to area being treated for pests or vermin? The falling or fainting after purging is consistant with rat poison.Purging will cause a drop in BP and a rapid electolite and sugar drop. If pet recovers fast and is up and around, I think the worst has passed. Watch for bright red blood in vomit. If noticable call Vet asap. The toxic blood thinner used is roughly the same used in blood thinners for humans,eg..Coumadin.The amount cosummed by the rodent is deadly but miniscule and even after the rodent “bleeds to death”the amount consumed by the average sized canine will cause symptons of which you discribed.2.,Intest. blockage…I’ve seen golf balls, socks and chunks of wood lodge in intestins.Unable to move the obstuction will block food and cause pet to vomit….even 2 days after consumming food.Your Vet may require a series of x-rays to confirm diag.If the obstuction is in upper tract maybe a teaspoon or two of fish, olive or canola oil may be the thing to “bring it up” but this too should be discussed with your Vet.Have faith and hang in there Katt19.

Symptoms in the Pharmacy $71.95 Symptoms in the Pharmacy presents a guide to the management of common symptoms seen in the pharmacy, with advice from an author team that includes both pharmacists and GPs. With the continued emphasis on the pharmacist’s role as a ‘first port of call’ in response to symptoms, the need for effective communication and interpersonal skills remains paramount. This book provides the pharmacist with the appropriate techniques for gathering information to meet the needs of patient safety in a way that is acceptable to the public. Case studies and comments from the pharmacist’s and doctor’s perspective are included throughout. This is now the fifth edition of Symptoms in the Pharmacy. The text has been fully revised to reflect the latest ‘prescription only medicine’ to ‘pharmacy medicine’ switches. Changes in medicine use, cautions and contraindications where recent evidence has shown new safety concerns are also covered. Similarly, where new evidence has shown treatments to be less effective and thus superseded, they have been removed. Reviewer: A reader from Bradford UK This book is an excellent guide for either trainee or newly qualified pharmacists. It covers most ailments which may be encountered on a daily basis in the community pharmacy and describes features of more serious underlying disease to aid diagnosis or referral. It is well presented and clearly laid out with separate chapters for each ailment. At the end of each chapter are example case studies giving in summary both the view of a pharmacist and medical doctor for each condition. My only criticism is that there are no illustrations or diagrams which I feel would have been helpful when describing clinical features of some conditions. Nonetheless there are clear descriptions of each ailment, highlighting symptoms, possible causes and most appropriate treatments. Importantly it gives clear guidelines on when to refer presenting ailments to a doctor. It is comparable in style to the title Minor Illness or Major Disease, however this title is illustrated with photographs of illness to aid recognition. A useful guide for all student pharmacists, preregistration pharmacists and possibly newly qualified pharmacists. |

Life with Chronic Illness $155 Many healthcare professionals are focusing their concerns on controlling symptoms and minimizing physical distress while failing to deal with the social and psychological factors related to living with long-term chronic illness. Ariela Royer makes an important contribution to the study of health and illness behavior by showing the various strategies chronically ill people use to manage their symptoms and overcome the consequences of their particular illness, so they can live the most normal life possible and maintain their self-esteem. In spite of a popular belief linking chronic illness mainly to aging, most chronic problems extend across the life span. One of every seven men and one of every eight women between the ages of 17 and 44 are limited in their major activity, their ability to work, keep house or go to school, because of a chronic condition. At ages 65 and over, nearly three-fifths of men and two-fifths of women are handicapped. Dr. Royer shows various strategies the chronically ill may use to live with the uncertainty inherent in chronic illness. She also discusses how one might try to overcome or to minimize the salient social consequences of chronic illness, such as stigma and social isolation, in order to get on with their lives. |
