My dog is spitting up white or clear slimy stuff, almost every day.?
I’ve been working with a holistic Vet, and she says it’s bile, but it’s not yellow. She rarely vomits food. She’s 12 and seems to be in good health otherwise. She started this about 4 months ago. I feed her twice a day I’ve tried an herbal remedy, but it hasn’t helped a bit. Any ideas?
You have to determine if your dog is vomiting or regurgitating. Vomiting is the forceful expulsion of food from the stomach whereas regurgitation is the passive emptying of the esophagus. Vomiting is associated with heaving, retching, and movement of the stomach. On the other hand, a dog may regurgitate undigested food, saliva, mucus passively by putting his head down or by a change in position e.g. jumping off furniture. If you suspect that your dog is regurgitating you may want to visit the Yahoo group for mega esophagus. I had a dog that had mega-e and initially when he regurgitated it was clear saliva that had the consistency of egg white. After a few weeks, the saliva started to have mucus in it. Some diseases such as myasthenia gravis and hypothyroidism can have secondary mega-e as a symptom.
