Dog Grooming?

I live in Missouri and I am trying to find a dog groomer for my puppy that will let me watch them while they groom my dog. I give my dog her bath myself but need to have someone cut her hair. I’ve taken my puppy to the groomers at Pet Smart and had a bad experience which is why I’m looking for a place that will let me be there. When I went to Pet Smart I witnessed them leave a dog unattended on the table, the dog jumped off the table which upset the worker, the worker then picked up the dog and slammed it down on the table in anger. Ever since then I’ve been hesitant on taking my dog to the groomer. Any advice?

I work at a dog groomer in customer service, and I am experienced with new owners wanting good care for their pets when they are groomed. Unfortunately, it is very rare for a groomer facility to allow the owner of their pet to watch as they groom it. There are a few reasons, but the big is as follows: when the owner is with their dog, the dog will become really agitated and will make grooming tougher for the groomers than it really should be. Your dog will realize you are there watching it and will wonder why you are making stay well behaved to be groomed. It will start behaving badly and make the grooming harder, which means a bad experience for your dog AND more fees for you to pay for the grooming. SOME facilities don’t want their owners to see their dogs groomed because they are dangerous places that do bad things to the dogs. But I assure you that MOST are not like that. I am behind the scenes at my grooming shop, and the dogs are taken care of 100 percent and go to back to their homes as happy groomed dogs. I really suggest that you find a grooming place that you like. Don’t go to the pet stores for grooming because they do a terrible job. Go to a place that ONLY does grooming, because they are more likely to do a good job and be good to the dogs. When you evaluate a grooming shop, talk to the groomers, look to see if it’s clean, and ask to go to the station where the groom dogs (usually in the back of the shop) to see how it looks. If you like the place, THEN make an appointment for your dog. The truth is, you really won’t find a place that will let you watch the dog being groomed for the big reason I already told you. So find a nice place that you LIKE and will trust. Look in phone books, ask your Vet, or ask other dog owners. I hope I helped you out a little. Much luck!
