Good luck. If it was that easy to get start up cash by just asking, everybody would be in business for themselves.

Most start by asking friends or family but that normally never works.

Next is to work 1 or 2 jobs and save every penny you make to use to buy items you need. This is the way most go.

Or if you have the ability and credit, sign for a loan at a bank. This is a risky move cause if the business doesn’t work you still have to pay the money back.

Best way is just to save your money. Shop smart, used stores, online, ebay etc for the items you need. Since it is a new business you dont’ need the best of each item nor does it have to be new.

Being that it is dogs and you need cages. Compare the cost of cages new or used to having a Dad, cousin, friend build you cages out of wood and wire.

The best thing to do also is start small with the business, this helps get the name out and allows customers to begin to trust your services.

Since you need money for the grooming part….maybe start off smaller by offering a dog sitting service and walking service. This can be done at home w/ no extra items needed or can be done at their home. After a year or so of making money and customer contacts you then announce you are offering a grooming service to the business. You then get repeat business from most you have already serviced all year plus some new customers.

Starting, opening and running a business is much like a child. It must first form from a few cells, slowly grow, get born, learn to crawl, baby steps, walking and then finally running as a normal business. This process can take a few months up to a few years depending on the business.

My one business of Automotive Cosmetics I started back in 1997 in the back of an old Honda Accord with just 17 bottles of touch up paint and a few paint brushes.

Now it is a company of 9 fleet trucks, 17 employee’s and generating 2.3 million a year in sales. 8 years from creation of the first cells to the point the company is just running.

Other good steps you will need are to secure your dot com, build a web site presence, make up business cards, invoices, paperwork, etc. And the more all of these items match each other the “larger” you will seem to your customers.

As a reminder …….people who are self employed are not rich right off. Even if you make a lot of money right off you have to pump it all back into the company to keep it alive and to help it grow. Not until many years down the road can you actually start getting paid or taking money from the company.

If you are just wanting to get rich quick, self employment is not the way to go. Tons of hours of hard work, stress, not sleeping, weeks of working 100+ hrs, etc is very common when being self employed specially during the first few years.
