I used to work in a Dog Grooming parlor, we had a fridge, oven, microwave, so everything was game. Now I work in an office, with no fridge, oven or microwave. I usually had yogurt with frozen berries, whole grain crackers and some sort of homemade salsa, sometimes a sandwich, cheese slices, and an apple… But I can’t keep anything cold now, and can’t warm up stuff!! What are somethings I can make at home relatively cheap that don’t need chilled or warmed and are quiet foods (no crunchy like chips or apples)?
I’m not a fan of peanut butter, so no pb&j, I also don’t like buying “to go” foods, like those ready made tuna things, and don’t want to order in, I’m trying to lose weight and also saving for my wedding next year.
Haha! Boy I’m a ditz, I never thought of a thermal lunch satchel or a thermos… But I’d still like ideas of what to take!

I used to have the dilemma of no fridge/micro at work too – and I have recently lost 80 pounds and I am a big fan of great tasting foods! And being on a budget with a family of 5 one 1 income – stretching the almighty dollar is crucial! (Cooking is one of my major passions) – here are a few ideas that are easy, taste great and are suited to dieting.
I am not sure if you cook a lot on the weekends – but it also helps save time in the kitchen in prepping for lunch for the work week…
1) If you bake chicken, set aside a piece or two and make a chicken salad out of those pieces – stuff it in something like a pita pocket or in a flavored wrap (walmart carries inexpensive ones) and freeze it – taking it out in the morning before you go to work and by the time you eat lunch, it will be cold but not frozen. You cold also put the chicken salad in tupperware and freeze and use flour tortillas fresh at lunch time and create wraps without having to freeze the wrap itself.
2) make a fruit salad with things like diced apples, crushed nuts, raisins, grapes (halved) and mix with a little mayo or miracle whip (waldorf salad recipe)
3) when making soups or chili – always place some in a tupperware container in the freezer for future work lunches – preheat before you go to work and put in a good thermos – will still be hot and tasty at lunch – served with some shredded cheese placed on top just before eating and something like wheat thins or another whole grain cracker or unsalted soda crackers – makes for a great lunch.
Anything you can think that will handle freezing the night before or leftovers that you have set aside just for your lunches can be either warmed up before you go to work or left frozen until the morning of and kept at room temp until lunch and will still remain cold!
