Is it dangerous to be a dog groomer?

Can dog groomers be bit by dogs they groom? At my local Petsmart some of the dogs have to wear muzzles now because a dog bit a groomer on the face and they needed a lot of stitches.

Is grooming a risky profession?

It can be . As a groomer I have been bit more times than I can count. But I specialized in behavioral problems & got mostly dogs that had little attitudes. I was already a dog trainer & specialized in aggression training. So the little teeth of most of the dogs only caused small wounds. I have never been seriously bit & never needed stitches.

There are a lot of groomers who know how to groom dogs but very few have much canine behavior knowledge behind them. When you understand aggression you can get around it.

It can be dangerous but it is so worth it. Satisfying customs made my day. Telling me that I have been the only one that could do their dog. My head just swelled. Understanding ‘aggression’ & the behavior that goes along with it really helps in grooming biters, squirmers & dogs that would fight the whole process.
