how to groom a dog with long hair?

the dog that i am getting has a tons of hair. Is it hard to groom dogs with long hair? what do i need for Dog Grooming?

No, it’s not hard. I love grooming my long-haired dogs. You will need a long pin brush (usually available only at dog shows — I like the Chris Christensen brush), a shedding comb, maybe a rake, and a slicker. You’ll need scissors to trim the pads and either a nail clipper or grinder.

If this is a double-coated breed (like a Collie, Sheltie, GSD, etc.) you need to “line brush” the dog so you are getting next to the skin. Lay the dog down and part the hair, brushing from the skin *up*. (This is a little hard to explain in words.) Then move to another section and repeat until you’ve done the whole dog.

Use the slicker on the soft hair behind the ears and on the hocks. When you finish the brushing, go over the entire dog with the shedding comb, which makes the whole coat lay beautifully.

I would really recommend that you find someone who has the same breed and get a little lesson in how to groom your dog.

A well-groomed dog will not be a problem with excessive shedding. Most double coated breeds do fine with a good brushing once or twice a week.
