how can i stop my dog from running out the gate when shes off the leash?
she is an 8 mo old shihtzu maltese X who always runs out the gate. we have tied her up long but i dont like seeing a dognot being able to come in the house when she likes.She runs out the gate and i cant have the gate closed because my dad is regularly driving in/out of the gate she is running on to other peoples property and barking at their cats and fighting their daschund ( or thinking about it). how can i stop this without getting a dog trainer or going to classes?
Don’t ever smack it – that’s cruel.
Take the dog to the gate on a lead. Make it sit and give it a treat on the command. Make it stay and walk out the gate – give another treat. Keep repeating this on numerous times until the dog understands what to do in order to get it’s treat. Once he understands, do it without the lead and continue until the dog is doing it all the time. Slowly stop the treats and dog should be trained. It is a longer process, but your dog will respond. If it gets bored with one treat, find another.
