What kind of Dog Food, treats, and toys do you recommend to give to a chihuahua?

How many times a week do I have to walk my chihuahua?

As the owner of two Chis’. One standard and one Toy, I’d say
they’ed be happy every day for going for a walk, since they
are high energy dogs. Ours get so excited when my husband
reaches for the halters and the leads. They start jumping from
one piece of furniture to another in anticipation. He only walks
them for about ten minutes and they are happy. Just the change of scenery from inside to out makes their day brighter.
Toys we pick up from bins at the Goodwill stores, when we
find some soft animals that are small to fit their mouths. They
run 49c in the bins. Some are actually key chains which you
just cut off the chain from. They love soft little balls, made of
fabric. I bought a package of them, but I forget where. We have one Chi who’s known how to fetch and retrieve since
we got her as a puppy. The Toy has no clue on how to play
that game yet. They both like to play ‘pull away’ with clean
white socks with a knot in them. You pull and the dog pulls
on his end. They growl and get so animated. They love it.
Treats are always Greenies. Get them at the grocery store
or the pet stores that carry everything under the sun. They are
the best for their teeth and they eat them. It keeps the tar off
of their t eeth. And keeps them healthier than bones. For food
we stick with Pet Promise since they both seem to like it.
We used that one, “Chicken Soup for the Soul” before that
for a few years, until they got bored. Their favorite food is
cooked chicken. And we give little bites of that on a little plate
occasionally. Usually from the deli that’s battered and cooked.
They inhale that so quickly. But a diet just with that isn’t good
for them all the time. As they don’t get enough nutrients. We
keep the dry down all the time and change their water twice or
three times a day in warm weather, like now. As soon as I
see bubbles on the side of their bowl, I know it’s time as the
water is flat and not satisfying as fresh from the tap.
We also give them a taste of vanilla ice cream during
summer. Usually if we have some, we’ll save a little dab that’s
melted and let them lick the bowl clean. It goes into the dish-
washer to sanitize anyway. But not too much cold anything is
good for them. So they know what they get is a treat.
It’s important to socialize your Chi also. As they tend to
not like other dogs and sometimes people too. We are
allowed to take them into the Goodwill stores and we put them in a shopping cart while we browse, putting something
on the bottom for them to sit on in comfort. Kids will pet them
as will adults. Even the store clerks too like them since they
are small. They generally only like smaller dogs like themselves. They don’t like agressive ones tho. Maybe a toy
poodle and other Chis’, they recognize as one of their own.
We’ve taken our two to a doggie park but they didn’t like the
confrontations with bigger dogs and barked their heads off.
Or jumped up on our laps on the benches.
They can be more entertaining than a TV show LOL. They
fill our lives with such laughter and happines. I’m sorry we
didn’t get one before when we were younger, instead of
bigger dogs that lay around and aren’t as active.
