Is it cruel to crate your dog while you are away at work?
Let’s say you have a Big Dog that sheds a lot.. and who you dont trust with your expensive furniture… would it be cruel to crate them while you are at work since you cant keep an eye on them?
to me a crate is used as a training tool and not where a dog will be locked for the rest of it’s natural life … and most people i know work an eight hour day plus travel time which is too long to crate a dog … the maximum a dog should be in a crate is 6 hours … it is not a crutch to be used instead of training … i crated my dog for from 8 weeks to a year old to reinforce housebreaking and to stop any unnecessary puppy chewing … by the end of a year she could be trusted alone in the house to not damage or relieve herself … i personally think it would be cruel to crate for more than 6 hours and don’t get me started on those who crate their dogs overnight !!!
