Dog Cages Crates

At what times do I put my dog in a crate?

My 1 year chihuahua uses a crate.
But, I am still confused on when to put her in the cage and when not to.
I do know I’m not supposed to punish her with it.
Please tell me when throughout the day putting my dog in the cage is necessary.

You’re right; you NEVER use a crate as punishment. Put your Chihuahua in her crate when you leave for work or on an errand. Your Chihuahua will be safest in her crate while you’re not at home. You will have peace of mind if you know that she is safely in her crate and not destroying the house out of separation anxiety.

Some dogs sleep in their crates or their beds at night. Mine always sleep in their crates. It’s up to you on which one you want to do, but like I said above, crates are the safest option.

Other than that, leave her crate door open throughout the day so she can go in and out as she pleases. A crate is like a lion’s den, but for dogs. It’s a dog’s own special place.
