How do I brush my dog’s teeth?

I know the question seems like it would have a simple answer. But do I use a normal toothbrush like mine? Or are there special dog brushes? What about the type of toothpaste? Also my dog is squirmy and I assume he will be stubborn about letting me get in his mouth. How do you suggest I go about this? Thanks!

You can spend alot of $ on toothpaste and brushes made especially for dogs or you can go buy a soft bristle toothbrush made for humans, a jar of buillion cubes and a box of baking soda which is what I do. Heat the buillion cube in less than 1/8th C of water in the microwave and add baking soda until it makes a paste. You don’t need to make it real thick. The dogs can suck as much of that down their throats as they want and it won’t hurt them.
Teeth brushing was a major battle here until I got smart and stood the dogs in a door way with 2, 4 ft. leashes attached to their collars. Then I drove a big nail into the door frame on each side high enough up to be both out of harms way and hold the leashes taut. This restricts the dogs from moving side to side too far. Then I back them up as far as they can go and make them sit down. I sit on the floor in front of them but just a little to the side so I can get my arm around their heads to hold them and go to town.
