Minor Dog Bite Treatment?
What’s the fastest and safest way to treat a minor dog bite on your stomach? I tried Neosporin and it still stings. It was my dog, so I know that all of his shots are updated, so I’m not worried about disease, just scarring and infection.
“Minor” dog bite wounds can be deeper than they seem. If you are unsure of the depth or the wound just doesn’t seem to be getting better see your doctor. You might need antibiotics or a more involved wound “wash out.”
To try to avoid this, you can clean the wound with alcohol or betadine in the shower. Or if you have access to a swimming pool with chlorinated water, go for a swim. Chlorine does a great job of killing bacteria.
Neosporin and other antibiotic ointments don’t penetrate deeply enough to be of much help in puncture injuries.
