VINTAGE LOVERS: Can you WASH Insides/Lining of Vintage Boots?

Like Dexter, Dingo, Zodiac brands. Can you? You know how they can have a lot of sticky/powdery residue but are otherwise in perfect condition (so disappointing!)? I have some like that and have heard they can be washed with a mildly soapy washcloth – just not too too much water. Someone (eBay seller) reported she did this and they came out almost perfectly clean.

Anyone do this/solve the issue? The boots just can’t be worn with that powdery residue all over inside – it’s plain gross!!

Leather is delicate, you don’t want to dry it out, or use caustic soaps and chemicals on it. I would do a repeated series of the following

light-brushing in insides using a small brush, or end cut off a soft toothbrush, or even a toothbrush bent to reach into the toes

vacuuming

scrubbing with mild hand soap damp washcloth

drying with newspapers/paper towels stuffed in them

repeat.

When that’s all done, lightly spray the insides with a liquid anti-fungal and let that dry.
