Daisies Dog Collar

Daisies Dog Collar
how to stop a dog from barking at night?

my one year old puppy (daisy) for some reason loves to bark at night and i have another dog (candy) that is a year and a half and she never barks at night, so i know that daisy just barks just to bark..
so my question is, how can i get her to stop barking!? I’ve thought about spanking her lol but i dont really think that would work.. sometimes i knock on the window and she shuts up but it doenst work everytime..
so how can i make her stop barking? do they have like some kind of thing you can put around their mouth so they dont bark? i dont wanna do the shock collar..

so yeah, help!
lol i cant bring her in!!! my dad wont let me!! if i could i would!
gosh meanies.. i do wanna bring her in, but im not allowed to

Are your dogs outside dogs? I am going to assume they are because you said you knock on the window to try and get Daisy to be quite, but if I’m wrong, let me know and I’ll edit my answer to fit for an inside dog.

So, the very first thing that came to mind when reading your question is that Daisy needs exercise. Again, because you didn’t say one way or another in your question, and because of the knocking on the window, I’m going to assume your dogs are outside dogs. Don’t take my answer the wrong way because I am really not trying to be mean, but I have to say, I do not agree in people having outside dogs at all. There are a couple things that make me feel this way..

1 – Dogs are pack animals and they need to be with their pack. I have to say, because you have 2 dogs, they probably aren’t as miserable as 1 dog would be if it was just left outside 24/7 like that, but they still can’t be happy like that. It is just not normal for 1 or 2 members of the pack to be separated from the rest of their pack and/or their pack leader (you). It’s just not healthy for them.

2 – An outside dog is more at risk than an inside dog. Someone could come into your yard and steal, hurt or kill your dogs (especially if some moron is sick of the barking and decides to take matters into his own hands), an animal could get into your yard and hurt or kill your dogs, your dogs can get out of the yard and get lost, stolen, poisoned, hit by a car, hurt or killed by another animal, etc. I, personally, am not ever okay with letting my fur-babies be outside unattended, ever, for any reason. I will admit though, I am kind of paranoid, because so many people hate my breed of choice, the APBT, and my baby boy Brooklyn (the dog in my picture) was killed, about a year ago, by someone I would have bet my life on that we could trust! : ( But yeah, the safety of my fur-babies is very important to me.

3 – When I was growing up, all of our dogs were kept outside, but that was what my parents chose to do, I was just a child. Anyway, just like my parents thought when I was growing up, the over-whelming majority of people who own outside dogs don’t think their dogs need their daily walks because they get to run around in the yard all day. Yes, running around in a yard is exercise, but it cannot be compared to a good walk. It’s not only people that own outside dogs that do this though, it’s a lot of Small Breed owners, and just a lot of other owners in general. A lot of people don’t realize the importance of a good walk. 1 – A walk is non-stop exercise. Every dog, no matter how big or small, whether it’s an inside dog or an outside dog, should get at least 1 walk a day. My husband and I own American Pit Bull Terriers, they are inside dogs and they go for 2-3 45-60 minute walks a day, plus we play with them inside and out in the yard on a daily basis, and we take them to the beach, the park, the dog park, to go see friends and family, etc, as often as possible. A tired dog is a good, happy dog. A dog with built up energy can get stressed out which is very unhealthy, they will do things like bark and bark and bark in an attempt to get out some of that extra energy, they may dig, chew, destroy things they know they shouldn’t mess with, and it can even cause fights to break out. A dog with built up energy is not a good thing. 2 – A pack travels together, so walks are great for the pack. It is time for bonding, and it’s also one of the very best times for you to show that you are the pack leader. 3 – A walk is great for socialization! Dogs get to see, hear and smell new things on every single walk! : )

So, again, it definitely sounds like Daisy, and Candy too, need to be taken for daily walks. I don’t know what breeds they are (that would be very helpful), but I would say around 30 minutes in the morning and around 30 minutes in the evening would be good, for now at least. You’ll be able to tell if that’s good, or if they need more or less. I would also suggest you bring them inside, but that’s up to you and I won’t push that. So, moving on..

To me, it also sounds like your dogs need some training. That’s another thing that tons of owners (of inside dogs, outside dogs, small and Large Dogs) don’t do. They don’t properly train and socialize their dogs. It wasn’t even until the last several years that I saw the importance in all of this, so don’t think I’m judging you or being mean. Even if I’m wrong though, and your dogs are inside dogs, I’d still suggest you work on some more training and either take your dogs for daily walks, if you don’t already, or take them for more and/or longer walk if you are already walking them every day. Anyway, working on even just basic training for 10-15 minutes a day, every day, is a great thing. Even if you already have well trained dogs, I’d still suggest that everyone do that. Just take one dog at a time and work on basic thing like sit, stay, come, lay down, roll over, etc. That is a good way for your dogs to get to spend some quality time with their pack leader, and it makes them happy to please you. I’d also suggest you do what my husband and I have done and train your dogs to stop barking after a few barks and/or when you tell them to.

I am not an expert on any of this, but this is how my husband and I got our dogs barking under control.. Every time the dogs would bark, after a couple barks, we would clap really loudly just once, or make some other loud, non-threatening noise, just to get their attention, then we would say “enough” the second they stopped barking. Then we would say “Good Boy/girl” right away and give them a treat. It took a little while for them to really get it, but now we can just say “enough” and they stop barking. We trained them like this because IMHO, dogs need to be able to bark. That’s their way of warning the pack leader of things, they need to know that it’s okay to bark, it’s not a bad thing, but barking non-stop is not acceptable.

So, now that I’ve gone over all of that, I also have to say, I would not ever suggest a bark collar, but you said you don’t like those either, so that’s good. I don’t really think the bark collars are cruel, I have tried them on myself and it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I just don’t like anything that will punish a dog, because again, I am all for the positive reinforcement. And, like I said before, I don’t like anything that would keep a dog from barking at all because some barking is a good thing. As far as something you can put around their mouths to prevent them from barking, the only thing I can think of would be a muzzle. With a muzzle on they can still breath, eat, drink, throw up, whatever they need to do, but I hate muzzles. Muzzles don’t fix anything, there will still be the same problems. The dog will still need more exercise and training, so I just don’t like muzzles.

Anyway, I hope this helps. If you have any questions about any of this, or if you have any other questions that you think I might be able to help with, please feel free to message me on here or e-mail me at pitbullmommie122106@yahoo.com. Good luck! : )
