Crate Pad
Is it possible to crate train and use Pee Pads?
I am a nurse, and I’m getting a puppy. I would like to crate train her only, but I know that during the three days a week when I am working a 12 hour shift, she won’t be able to hold that in. I thought of confining her to the kitchen and trying to train her to use pee pads as well but I know how confusing that might be for her…any help?
Your right, that will confuse the dog very much, but I dont see you have any other choice really. I would highly suggest taking the dog to a doggy daycare or have a dogwalker come to your house for the 3 days you will not be home. Have you considered getting an older dog that is already house trained?? Being confined to one area for 12 hours, can only lead to bordom and with bordom is complete destruction. A tired dog is a Good Dog, a bored dog is a bad dog. During your 4 days off, do not use the pee pads and stricktly just do House Training, within a few shift turn arounds she will understand. You are right though 12 hours, is way too long for any animal or human not to go to the bathroom..
