Control Dog Traning
Training issue….?
Hi!
I rescued a dog a few months ago (an Old English Sheepdog)… He had had no formal training when I got him and was VERY lively (only being 15 months old).
I have been training him and got most of his behaviour under control. He’ll sit, lay down, come and stay without and issues. He’ll walk easily either on or off lead and is happy and affectionate..
My only issue is when we are walking and see another dog. He forgets all his traning and makes a bee line for the other dog. He doesnt attack, just wants to play but nevertheless this is NOT a good thing.
I’ve tried to correct this but, if I’m honest, I’m not sure how.
I grew up with dogs, can train them well without negative stimulous but I just dont know where to start.
Any Ideas?

hey it’s me again! inside each of us is an animal, at least that is how dogs see it. your dog thinks he is the leader of the “animals” that live in your house. when you are home he’s great, because he is “roaming” with his pack, but the moment he sees another animal trying to “get” with his pack he doesn’t know how to react. if he is being playful, then he knows that the other dog doesn’t pose as a threat, but he is trying to show you that he is more ” in control” than you are. when you are with him BEFORE you leave to go out in public, close your eyes and FEEL that you are the most powerful one. he will feel that vibe coming of of you when you walk out the door. while you are on your walk, firmly say to him, stop, or halt, every once in a while to let in know you are in the lead, so when another dog gets near, you can do the same thing and he will get the picture. also, if he walks ahead of you then you are letting him think that he is the leader, you must keep a short leash for a little while to keep him at your side, so he will look at you as his equal. when when another dog comes into the picture, he will assume that you are the one to take care of the situation. good luck!
