Nose collars for American Bulldogs…?

Can a nose collar (gentle leader) be worn on American Bulldogs? I recently purchased these collars for my dogs, and even though my male’s mouth is open, he has that gurgled sound like he has some restriction with the collar. The collar and leash combo is a fantastic idea but I am concerned with this particular breed. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
I am using the correct size following their weight, but there may be a problem with the bulldog breed in general being able to wear this around their nose. I will walk them with it to get them more accustomed to it and see if there is a continued problem. I may need to switch to the harness after all.

Are you sure you have the right size? If you’re worried, go back to the pet store and have them adjust it. Gentle Leaders and Halti’s should work on all breeds of dog except those without noses (Pug, Pekingese, Old English Bulldog). It may just take a little adjustment to get it right.
