Does the color of a dog’s nose have anything to do with how much time he spends outside?

I recently adopted a 5 year old Golden Retriever mix from the shelter. Last night I took him to Petco and someone came up to pet him and told me that the reason his nose is pink is because he spends time indoors. He said that if I let him spend more time outside his nose will turn black. I have never heard this before. I thought nose color was a genetic thing. Additionally, he spends the same amount of time outside as my other dog, whose nose is black .

Nose color is genetic for the most part in dogs the same way it is for cats. My dog was born with a black nose and our pink nosed cat’s nose has remained pink even though he can’t get enough of the great outdoors. (A lot of people like to give their erroneuos opinions in pet shops, like the one woman who accused me of neglecting my dog and letting it get mange, when in actuality the dog had an allergic skin condition that she was born with and I had already spent hundreds at the Vet trying to solve it, but whatever).
