What size collar do I need to get for my Golden Retriever puppy?

I am picking up my 6 week old golden retriever puppy tomorrow and I am not sure what size collar to get, does anyone know? A small would be a logical choice, but they all look to thin. I want one of those thicker collars, but mediums look to big. Can anyone help please? Thanks
I want to buy a collar before picking her up. She lives 4 and a half hours away. She needs a collar when we stop for her to go potty, so I am not sure the size to get. So i dont have the dog to test it on at the moment.

You will be buying a few collars for your pup as he grows. You must buy a collar that, when buckled you can slip two fingers between the collar and his neck, otherwise it is too tight. Once a collar is getting too tight you must get a new one. A six week old puppy is very small (most pups are not fully weaned and do not go to their new homes until they are 8 or 9 weeks old). Not even sure if you need a collar for a couple of weeks. You won’t be walking him on a leash yet.
This is a very young pup and you will need to be very careful with him/her. She will need lots of sleep, three to four meals a day and should live inside the house.
