Dying dark green coat into purple? ?

I recently bought an over coat that’s 80% cotton and I can’t remember what the other 20% is, but it’s darkish green and I need to turn it purple. I bought 5 packs of RIT Dye, but I’ve been told that it might not work and I’d get some sort of brownish color. I’d appreciate it If anyone knows how likely it is that it’d turn purple and not something else and answers.

It is true that you would get a muddy color if you dyed the coat as it is. RIT has a color remover that you should try before you dye this coat. Treat the coat with the color remover, get it clean and dry, and then go ahead with the dye. If the color remover isn’t available where you got the dye, try a crafts or fabric store. Don’t use ordinary bleach, as bleach dissolves fabric fibers when used in the concentrations necessary to completely remove color.
