How do you start clicker Training?

My dog is creeped out by strange noised–how would I go about teaching him it’s fine and then how do I start Clicker training?

Start “clicker” training using a verbal marker instead of the clicker until you and the dog are both feeling better about the whole training process. Then you can work on conditioning the clicker with it muffled in your pocket, or use a ball point pen, or one of the softer bug clickers.

As for starting, my first suggestion is to do some reading first- www.clickersolutions.com is a good place to start, there are quite a lot of articles, don’t try to read them all, just a few to get started. You can also watch some good clicker training videos on youtube- kikopup and supernaturalBC both have some excellent videos, just replace the clicker with a short marker word, such as “yes!” said very quickly. Some people use a letter of the alphabet so they don’t unintentionally use the marker when they don’t mean it, X and B seem to be good choices. And X can be X-cellent when really good!
