Could my 6 week old have allergies? (Please read details!)?

She had a clogged tear duct right out of the chute and it seemed to clear up when she was a few weeks old. But now, both of her eyes become red and water sometimes. It happens several times a day…it doesn’t seem to cause her a lot of discomfort, because she doesn’t fuss at all and I’ve never noticed her swiping at her eyes but that might be because she doesn’t know she can yet.

Could she be allergic to one of our pets? We have 2 dogs and a cat. Should I just wait until her next appointment with the pediatrician here in a few weeks, or should I call them now?
Oh, I forgot to mention that her Daddy seems to think it has something to do with bright light. He has noticed that her eyes water and such the most when she’s exposed to it…could she have like a hyper sensitivity to bright light?

I asked about this too when my baby was your age. A nurse told me that it is unlikely at that age that she has allergies because at this point she still has your immune system. My baby gets watery eyes when she is trying to poo. Does she have a hard time pooing? Claire, my baby was on soy for a while because of milk intolerance and it made her constipated. It takes a while for their eyes to adjust to their new world. I’m absolutely sure she is fine, no allergies, she would be sneezing and crying. You probably know how uncomfortable allergies are, I certainly do, I have two cats and my eyes get itchy all the time, if a baby was going through that they would most definitely cry. My little one is three months old and by now I’m learning that if anything pains her she cries and it is an unmistakable cry that something is wrong. Your baby will tell you if something is wrong. My guess is that this has to do with the tear duct. Place a warm washcloth over each of her eyes for about 30 seconds to a minute. Do it while she is eating or sleeping so she fights you less. the warm water will loosen any goopy eye boogers and it will feel good too. If she had allergies her eyes would also be red and inflammed. If you notice her eyes are red don’t assume it is allergies either it may just be tiredness. When Claire is tired the skin around her eyes gets really red. It took me a while to figure this out too. The cry of pain sounds like “WAAA,” they really emphasize the W, and they do not stop. Claire was colicky for a few weeks and that is how she sounded, it was like no other cry I’ve ever heard and I haven’t heard it since. Every other cry is just hungry bored or tired. So no, I don’t think she has allergies.
