The Chihuahua dog is or is not an evolution of the wolf by the human selection or selective breeding?

Somebody told me that chihuahueño is not a product of human intervention, instead this dog evolved, probably from the grey wolf, like the other dogs, but by the means of natural selection. Is that true? Which are the proofs?

The various dog breeds, including chihuahuas are the result of selective breeding by humans for certain traits. That said, dogs did evolve from wolves. The selective breeding of them into different breeds came much later.
