Brush Comb Grooming

I’m picking up my persian girl kitten and would like a list of essentials for a persian?

She will be 13 weeks when I collect her, PKD negative (in case anyone wondering), she is use to being groomed daily and will be litter trained.

So far I have:

Small soft brush
Grooming Comb
Hooded litter tray
Cat litter
Toy tunnel
Toys
Bed
Harness and retractable lead
Royal Canin Persian Kitten Food (which is same as breeder giving)
Feeding Bowls

Am I forgetting anything?? Is a Tear Stain removal product essential? She will be wormed, flead and jabs done.

Anything else needed for a persian kitten/cat?
Just thought of something else I need – the obvious – a scratching post !!

Cross that first item off the list – a Persian’s coat should NEVER be brushed. Brushes do little to remove the loose hairs of the undercoat and can pull out and break topcoat hairs. All you need is a good quality steel toothed comb. The Greyhound or Greyhound-style ones http://www.fidoandfelixpetcare.co.uk/img/products/finecoarsecomb.jpg are what most owners/breeders use but the one I tend to use most on my Persian is one from Bamboo – http://www.superpetstore.com/images/Bamboo-Rotating-Medium-Coarse-Tooth-Comb-RP-DAM810004.jpg It has extra long teeth so you can get right to the skin and the teeth rotate so you’re less likely to tug at the hair.

For eye care – yes – you should get a tear stain removal product. The one I swear by is Eye Envy. It’s great at removing existing stains and regular use keeps the eyes from getting goopy and prevents staining. Now I only use it about once a week on my Persian and Exotic and their eyes stay nice and clear:

Another thing you should get for the cats are toys that you can wave and your cat can chase. Persians tend to LOVE those tinsel on a stick toys and feather wands. My guys go nuts for them and any Persian I’ve seen at shows are the same way. Any lure toys are great, too – The Cat Catcher, Da Bird. The key is toys that YOU make move. This will bond your cat to you and also give your kitty plenty of exercise.

Also forego on the bowls – unless they’re VERY shallow ones. Persians have flat faces and eating out of bowls is rather difficult. I have wide and shallow bowls for their dry food and saucers for their canned food – which you should be feeding your kitten as well as dry.
