allegic to my pet blue rat..what can l do to keep him?

Just found out that l am allergic to my pet rat..i have a mild case of it..what can l do that will help me, and still keep my pet?

Keeping your cage clean will help, you might need to change bedding, and sifting the bedding before you put it in the cage will cut down on the amount of bedding that will get on the rat, and then onto you. Urine is a common rat allergy, so keeping it spotless will keep the urine from being on the fur and then onto you. Rats can be bathed, although not alot, once a month would be ok, and keep the allergens down. You can also wipe them with a damp washcloth inbetween baths to get any dander and urine off of them.
