How to keep a Big Dog from chasing a kitten?

I have a big dog (lab/retriever mix) who I’ve had for about 4-5 years now. I just rescued a tiny kitten that has been living inside with me for the first 2 weeks. A member of the family is allergic to cats so we had to put the kitten outside and she’s very small and vulnerable. My dog chases this kitten and barks and scares her, sometimes even tries to bite her. I’m afraid one day my dog will bite the kitten and wound it.

Please bring the kitten inside… until you can find it a home. Kittens shouldn’t be left outside on their own, they haven’t been shown survial skills by their mom. It is likely to get run over by a car or eaten by an owl or other predators…

Until you can find it a home… while the dog is around the kitten you will to put the dog on a leash, when the dog chases or barks correct it with a ‘No’ then a ‘Sit’ then reward with a treat. I also recommend a squirt bottle (setting on stream) & squirt the dog when it misbehaves… use both of these technics & you should be good to go…
