I have a Nikon L3 coolpix with fresh new batteries and when powered on it says battery exhausted.?

This just started and the camera is maybe one year old. At first it would not power up at and now when I switch batteries which are brand new and charged, I can get it to come on, but it just says battery exhausted or battery extremely exhausted.

If they are rechargeable batteries, you probably need new ones. They do need replacing after so many charges. Have you tried using disposable lithiums in your camera? If you are worried about your camera, try those. They last a very long time but are a bit expensive.
